Belfast Historical Society
Celebrating our heritage. Bringing people together. Making history.
Welcome to Belfast, Prince Edward Island
A Scottish heritage. A vibrant community. A history still being written.
Belfast’s story began long before today. In August 1803, a small Scottish sailing ship called the Polly brought nearly 400 Scottish Highlanders, most from the Isle of Skye, across the Atlantic to begin a new life on Prince Edward Island.
Their journey marked the beginning of a remarkable chapter in Belfast’s history — one built on courage, community, tradition and a strong connection to Scottish heritage.
Today, the Belfast Historical Society celebrates that legacy while bringing people together through cultural events, community activities, an engaging Speakers Series and the much-loved Belfast Celtic Festival & Highland Games.
But our story isn’t just about the past. It continues with every generation, every new arrival and every person who becomes part of this community.
The past brought us together. The future is ours to make.
